Tysinger Is 4-A Regional Champion..Will Wrestle for
State Championship

Cody Tysinger is the Midwest 4A Regional Champion after this weekend’s championships held at Glenn High School. Tysinger bested Michael Macchiavello of Sun Valley High School by a decision. 2-0

Tysinger heads to the state championships to be held at the Greensboro Coliseum next week. The first round for the 4A schools will be Thursday beginning at 7:00PM. Tysinger is currently ranked #2 in the state in his weight class, and we wish him well this coming week. Bring home the Gold!

Knights In Action at Midwest 4A Regionals

North Davidson entered 11 wrestlers into the Midwest 4A regional.

At the end of the first night, North Davidson still had 8 Wrestlers alive, 4 in the Championship Quarter Finals, and 4 into the 2nd Round of Consilations.

North is in 12th place as a team.

Jeremy Hill (145), Cody Downs (170), Cody Tysinger (182) and Alex Cave (285) all won their first matches and moved into the Quarterfinals.

Gabriel White (113), Jan Pabon (152), Taylor Richardson (160) and Bryson Starling (220) all bounced back from defeat in the first round to stay alive in the tournament.

Wrestling will start at 9 AM Saturday morning at Glenn High School.

Spencer Ader, Dylan Robertson and Nick Jarvis, went 0-2 on the night and were eliminated.

Knights Finish Tri-Match Season

The Black Knight Wrestlers travelled to Williams High School last night for a pair of matches with Williams High School and Northeast Guilford High School. This was a Tri-Match set up because none of the teams involved qualified for the State Duals Tournament. Glenn was also in attendance but did not wrestle North Davidson.

North Davidson closed out the dual season with a pair of victories, defeating Northeast Guilford 41-26 and then defeating Williams 42-29. 

Winning both matches for the Black Knights were Gabriel White (113), Dylan Robertson (120), Cody Downs (170), Cody Tysinger (182) and Alex Cave (285).

The Black Knights close out the dual team season with a record of 13-14. The Black Knights will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at Glenn High School in the 4A Midwest Regional.

Tysinger, Cave Are CPC Champions…Knights Place 3^rd

The North Davidson Black Knight Wrestling Team finished 3rd in the CPC Conference Tournament Saturday held at West Forsyth.

Central Piedmont Conference Champions for the Black Knights were Cody Tysinger (182) and Alex Cave (285).  Runner-Ups for the Black Knights were Taylor Richardson (160) and Cody Downs (170). 3rd Place for the Black Knights were Gabriel White (113), Jeremy Hill (138), Jan Pabon (145) and Jacob Lester (152).  Finishing in 4th Place for the Black Knights were Spencer Ader (106), Dylan Robertson (120), Aaron Harper (132) and Bryson Starling (220). Congratulations to ALL the Black Knights for their hard work this season, and for a fine showing!

Knights Defeat Reagan in CPC Match

The Black Knight Wrestlers took to the mat Thursday in Welcome for Senior Night and came away with a victory, against Reagan. The final score was 48-24. Prior to the match, we honored our seniors, Adam Lambeth, Cody Downs, Taylor Richardson, Jeremy Hill, and Cody Tysinger. Four of our five seniors were able to win matches as well, Jeremy Hill, Taylor Richardson, Cody Downs and Cody Tysinger. Also winning matches for the Black Knights, Gabriel White, Jan Pabon, Kameron Dozier, Bryson Starling and Alex Cave.

 This ups the Black Knights record to 11-14 on the season and 3^rd place in the Central Piedmont Conference behind West Forsyth (2^nd) and Davie County (1^st).

 The Black Knights will be back in action Saturday at West Forsyth in the Central Piedmont Conference Tournament.  Weigh-ins will start at 8:30, Wrestling will start at 10 AM.

 The Black Knights did not qualify for the State Dual Tournament, but we will be wrestling next Wednesday night at Williams High School, with the matches starting at 6:30 PM.  The Black Knights will be wrestling Williams High School as well as North East Guilford High School.

Tysinger Gets 100^th Win, Knights Place 5^th

The Black Knight Wrestlers finished 5^th place as a team Saturday at the Phillip Reed/Twin City Rumble wrestling tournament held at Glenn High School. The Black Knights had several placers as well.  Davie County won the tournament, SE Guilford finished 2nd, East Forsyth 3rd, Glenn 4th, NDHS 5th, Trinity 6th, Salisbury, 7th, Scotland County 8th, Leesville Road 9th, Reagan 10th, Rockingham County 11th, Providence Grove 12th, Atkins 13th and Marion (VA) 14th.

Jan Pabon – 145 – 3^rd Place

 Congratulations to Cody Tysinger on achieving his 100^th career win as well in the tournament. He took on Defending State Champion and fellow King of the Mat Champion, Nick Kee from Scotland County in the Finals in one of the best matches I’ve ever seen. Nick got an escape in the 2^nd period, and that was the only points scored in the match, as Nick won the contest 1-0.

The Black Knights will be back in Action on Thursday night at North Davidson taking on Reagan High School. This will be Senior Night as well, with the matches starting at 7 PM!

Knights Win CPC Match VS. RJR

The Black Knight Wrestling team travelled to RJ Reynolds high school tonight for a CPC Dual Match.  The Black Knights came out victorious, 68-11.  Winning for the Black Knights were: Spencer Ader, Gabriel White, Dylan Robertson, Nick Jarvis, Hunter Clark, Jeremy Hill, Jan Pabon, Jacob Lester, Taylor Richardson, Cody Tysinger, Bryson Starling and Alex Cave. Tysinger now has 99 wins, and can notch his 100^th this weekend!

This brings the Black Knights record to 10-14 on the season, 2-2 in the CPC.

The Black Knights will be back in action on Saturday at the Phillip Reed/Twin City Rumble at Glenn High School.

The Black Knight Wrestling team was unable to get on track Thursday night in Welcome, dropping a 54-11 match to the visiting Vikings of NW Guilford. Winning for the Black Knights were Cody Tysinger, Jan Pabon and Jacob Lester.

A Week Inside ND Wrestling

The North Davidson Wrestling team took on Davie County last Friday, and were defeated by a score of 56-15. They moved on to the Bobby Lloyd Invitational Tournament on Saturday at Andrews High School in High Point. Below is the results of the Davie match, and then a bit of an insiders view of how a “tournament” is run, along with the results.

Now for how a tournament comes to be…I had the opportunity to meet with Coach Crotts to find out exactly how a weekend tournament is put together. I had in my mind a slew of spreadsheets, and pencils to figure out how, who, when, and where the boys wrestle. Coach Crotts told me that it still happens that way in some places, pencil and paper, and I would dread that, and feel bad for those coaches that do it that way. He did tell me, however that the coaching fraternity is pretty close, which is why he was asked to be the director of the Bobby Lloyd Invitational that was held at T.W. Andrews HS in High Point this past weekend. Long story short…you don’t need a pencil with Coach Crotts. In this case, there were 16 teams entered, and all Crotts needed was a spreadsheet with the wrestlers names, records from this year, how they did in state, or regional tourneys in the past year or two, and he had it nailed. You get the spreadsheets…(and it could be up to 3,000 wrestlers), divide them by weight class, put in your parameters, such as state wins, regionals, etc, and make a master spreadsheet, all on the computer. Then, and here’s where it gets great, there is a software program that will input all the data, and will rank the wrestlers, by weight, wins, etc. and print out brackers! Crotts is so intent to make sure it’s fair, that he even goes back to look at records, past state wins, etc. to make sure the “seedings” are fair. Even then, he says there’s always going to be a dispute, but with the computer program, he can show how the seedings were done, so there are no “favorites”. It was amazing to watch, and a lot quicker than I thought it would be. I was prepared for hours of staring at records, and pulling out numbers from a fishbowl. What I thought would be at least 3 hours of work took less than an hour. Hats off to Coach for what he does BEHIND the scenes…great job!

Black Knight Grapplers Place 2^nd in Takedown Cancer Classic

The Black Knight Wrestling team traveled to Dudley High School on Saturday to compete in the Takedown Cancer Classic.  The Black Knights had an outstanding day!  We took 13 Wrestlers, unfortunately only 12 made weight.  But those 12 had a GREAT DAY!  All 12 of the wrestlers placed in the tournament, with 10 of them being Top 3.  Only the host Dudley Panthers placed more wrestlers than the Black Knights (13 to our 12) which is why they won the tournament.  The Black Knights placed a very respectable 2nd place!

The North Davidson Wrestling Team split the opening round of CPC Matches on Thursday night.  We lost a close one to West Forsyth, 36-46 and we defeated Mt. Tabor, 54-28.  Going undefeated for the Black Knights was Jan Pabon, Taylor Richardson, Cody Tysinger and Alex Cave.  Splitting matches for the Black Knights were Spencer Ader, Gabriel White, Dylan Robertson, Brandon Blackburn, Nick Jarvis, Jeremy Hill and Bryson Starling.

Tysinger Wins King Of The Mat, Team Places 12^th

On Thursday and Friday of last week, North Davidson played host to 35 of the elite wrestling teams in the area. It was the annual King of the Mat Tournament. Matches began each day at 9am, and action didn’t finish up until early evening. Coach Crotts and his staff deserve a round of applause of putting on this exciting competition each year.

This year, the Black Knights own Cody Tysinger won his weight class to be declared the champion of King of the Mat, and the Knight team as a whole placed a respectable 12^th out of 35. We look forward to next years edition.

The Black Knight Wrestling team came in 10th place Saturday at the Jerry Hampton Invitational held at Central Davidson Senior High School.  The Black Knights only had 2 placers, as this is one of the toughest one day tournaments held in North Carolina.  Taylor Richardson (160) took 2nd place in the tournament and Jan Pabon (145) took 3rd place.  The Black Knights will be back in action Tuesday night at North Davidson as they take on Thomasville and SW Randolph.  Davie County will also be there to take on Thomasville and SW Randolph.  The Matches will start at 7 PM with North Davidson taking on Thomasville and Davie County taking on SW Randolph.  After both matches are completed, SW Randolph and Thomasville will switch mats with North Davidson taking on SW Randolph and Davie County taking on Thomasville.

Knights Place 7th in Eden

The Black Knights took 7^th place at the Eden Holiday Classic.  The Black Knights took 6 wrestlers to this Varsity Tournament as the rest of the team went to a JV Tournament at Lake Norman. 

Cody Tysinger was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament as voted on by the Coaches, moving his record this year to 11-0, winning his 3^rd straight tournament of the season.

Nick Wimmer continued his excellent Freshmen campaign in a new sport for him as he took 3^rd place, wrestling in 3 tournaments so far this year, placing in all 3!

Jan Pabon and Taylor Richardson placed in their 3^rd straight tournaments as well, both taking 5^th place today.

In a close match, North lost to Central Davidson 48-30, and got blown out by West Rowan 48-23. The team travels to Morehead this Saturday for the Eden Holiday Classic. Your Black Knight Wrestling Team traveled to West Wilkes on Saturday to participate in the Blackhawk Invitational. The team as a whole placed a respectable 4^th out of 13 teams.

Black Knights Host Cross Face Classic

The Black Knight wrestling team welcomed 7 other teams to town on Saturday for the Cross Face Classic.

North Davidson did very well as a team, finishing second, with 8 of 12 wrestlers placing in the top 3 in their weight class.

The day began with a draw to determine each bout. Then the wrestling began. There were 2 bouts going on at a time, and with all the action, it was hard to decide which one to focus on. After the first round Charlotte Latin led the way with a team total of 38 points, followed by North with 18 points.

The second round began, with the same format as the first, and by the time the round was concluded, North had crept into the team lead by one point over Charlotte Latin, 117-116.

The championship round began on one mat, with the 3^rd/4^th place matches on the other, and at the end of the day, Charlotte Latin was the overall team winner with 149 points, followed by North Davidson with a respectable 139. Congratulations to all the teams for the effort.

If you’ve never been to a wrestling match, or tournament, it really something to see. Wrestling is not the WWE, or the Ultimate Fighting you see on television. There is a lot of skill, finesse and precision involved, and when you watch it in person, you can see that these student athletes put a lot of work and preparation into their craft.

That being said, I must say that the most impressive thing to watch are the wrestlers working with each other prior to and after their matches. When you think of team sports, football, basketball, baseball are typical things that come to mind. Wrestling is also a team sport, but is also a very individual sport, and when you see the kids at the edge of the mat cheering, coaching, and giving tips to those in the middle of the struggle, it makes you proud. These kids revel in each others victories, console in losses, and they continue to wrestle through pain and injury. They are really warriors in their own way.

If you haven’t been to a match, I encourage you to attend one. You will be surprised by what you see, and the wrestlers will appreciate the attendance.

Black Knight Grapplers Split First Match

The Black Knight wrestling team travelled to West Davidson for their first matches of the season. They first took on North Surry High School, and came up short 45-29. They followed up that match with a win against Surry Central High 54-30. Results of both matches are below, and we thank Coach Crotts for providing the stats.
