The Black Knight Varsity soccer team had an impressive 3-1 victory over the Reagan Raiders Monday evening in Pfafftown.

David Clodfelter opened the scoring in the first half with an assist from Marshall Hodge. Less than 2 minutes later, Reagan evened the score at 1. That would be the last the Raiders would see the net, as keeper Brock McDowell played his best game of the year.

Soccer can be a typically physical contest, and this CPC match was no exception. A lot of pushing and shoving, but the Knights kept their composure, and controlled much of the game.

Later in the first half, Ryan Cooper got another shot through, as he has done all year, with an assist from Jin Yoo Yom, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead. That’s how the first half ended, with 40 minutes to go.

In the second half, the Knights came out with a purpose, and constantly attacked the goal, missing either just wide, or just high.

David Clodfelter finally broke through after a Knight corner kick that was deflected his way and sent a bullet through the defense, giving the Knights a 3-1 lead, which would be the final score. Clodfelter had 2 goals on the evening, his best showing this year!

The Knights are now 6-8-1, with 2 more games this week which could determine if they make the playoffs.

The next match is on Wednesday, at RJ Reynolds, and the final regular season match is scheduled for Thursday at home vs Davie. It’s senior night, so come out and support both the JV and Varisty Black Knights, and pay tribute to our seniors! The JV contest begins at 5:15, followed by the recognition of the seniors. The Varsity game should being shortly after 7.

Prior to the Varsity game, the JV Knights drew a draw against the JV Reagan Raiders 0-0.

We Salute our ND Knight Soccer Seniors

Tonight’s final regular season Soccer match featured the Davie War Eagles vs. our Black Knights. It was senior night, and it was nice to see a full stand, with parents, and students coming out to support not only the Seniors, but the soccer team as well.

Prior to the game, tributes were paid to our Seniors…David Clodfelter, Brock McDowell, Andy Roberts, Ryan Cooper, Andres Ramirez and Fure Olaoker. Well done gentlemen, thank you for being Knights, and always know you have a home here in Welcome. WE are PROUD of you and all of your accomplishments!

The match was well played, and the Knights came out with a vengeance. Both sides were pretty even for most of the night. The first score came from Davie with about 10:30 left in the first half. For much of the rest of the half, it was an even game. With less than a minute left, the Knights put on a fierce attack on the net which went on for much of that minute, but kept coming up short. Davie was finally able to clear the ball and with just 4.6 seconds left, they were able to find the net.
At the half, it was 2-0 in favor of Davie.

In the second half, it began to look like Davie was going to put a stranglehold on the match. Just 8 and a half minutes into the half, they struck again, taking a 3-0 lead. At this point, the War Eagles had the game in hand, or so they thought, and acted like they were going to put us away. However Black Knight Pride roared it’s head!

The game began getting much more physical, many fouls were called, and a yellow card or two, but with 17:30 left, Senior Ryan Cooper scored what could be his final high school goal of his career, pulling the Knights to 3-1.

From that point, it once again became an even match on ball control, but the Knights kept up the attack. You could begin to sense a change in the crowd, as the Knights kept fighting.

With 4:30 left in the match, Carter Skotthy laced a shot into the net, with the assist from Marshall Hodge. The Knight faithful sensed a comeback, now only down 3-2.

Despite the best efforts of the team, the final turned out to be 3-2 in favor of Davie.
The men’s soccer team has made great strides with first year coach Rakes, and we thank him for all his efforts. We also thank both the JV and Varsity teams for great seasons. You gave your all on the pitch, and the future is bright! GO BLACK KNIGHTS!
